The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a new lead paint regulation that takes effect April 22, 2010. This regulation is called the Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule and it applies to contractors, property owners and others who disturb or repair paint in pre-1978 housing, child care facilities and even schools. The RRP rule requires completeion of an 8-hour training course, pre and post-work notices to owners and residents, and a cleaning verification procedure. Once the rule goes into effect, any company undertaking renovations covered under the rule must be certified by the EPA to do so. In addition, each remodeling project covered under the rule must have a certified renovator assigned to it. For more information go to the EPA's web page on lead: http://www.epa.gov/lead/index.html
